Studies in my laboratory investigate the effect of diabetes on inflammatory cell function. We have already shown that diabetes can alter the circulating monocyte and neutrophil phenotype but how this is related to the presence of diabetic complications in particular poor wound healing is not known.
Projects in this area would use a variety of techniques including but not limited to studies at the whole animal level, cell culture, flow cytometry and a variety of molecular and histological techniques.
