Synopsis

A new instrumented simple shear apparatus has been developed at the University of Sydney to try to resolve a long standing debate on the correct interpretation of direct and simple shear tests of clay. The instrumentation is critical to this exercise as without this assumptions are required to interpret the test responses. The project would involve carrying out a series of tests on clay specimens at a range of stress levels and for a number of stress histories.
