Pain Medicines Road Map

There is currently no evidence source (in Australia or globally) that has appraised and summarised the evidence on the efficacy and safety of common pain drugs to treat pain in one document. Existing systematic reviews tend to focus on one drug and one pain condition. What is lacking is a comprehensive overview, or ‘Pain Medicines Road Map', which ‘brings it all together'.

Dr Christina Abdel Shaheed , Professor Chris Maher, Professor Andrew McLachlan.

Research location

Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, University of Sydney

Program type

The focus of this Masters or PhD opportunity will be to evaluate the efficacy and safety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), muscle relaxants, gabapentinoids (pregablin and gabapentin), and glucocorticoids for any pain condition. A detailed project plan will be discussed with the supervisors.
