Computer Supported Learning and Cognition

The CoCo Research Centre was created at the University of Sydney in 2003. Our primary goal is research. We study innovative uses of advanced learning technologies, in order to gain a better understanding of learning, teaching, technology and their inter-relationships. We also contribute to innovation in the use of ICT for learning and teaching within the University, and to the development of professionals who support other people’s learning in the corporate and public sectors. Our professional development opportunities focus on specialists in e-learning, instructional/educational design, knowledge management, organisational development and educational administration, as well as teachers, trainers and lecturers.Our core themes include:computer-supported collaboration, co-operation, and cognition;
co-construction of knowledge;

Program type

CoCo was officially launched in March of 2004. However, it all started back in early 2003, when co-directors Peter Reimann and Peter Goodyear (Peter and the other Peter) decided to leave Europe and head downunder to start a leading research group at the University of Sydney. Just a few years down the track and CoCo has already made a name for itself. It has quickly become a centre of gravity for elearning research and practice, complimented by an emerging focus in e-Research. International guests bring expertise and global perspective and in the last few years, we have had the opportunity to welcome a slew of top researchers from Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, as well as host symposia and a major ASCILITE conference. The Visiting Researchers page keeps a list of some of those colleagues that have visited and collaborated with CoCo in the past few years.We've also received numerous major research grants, including seven ARC grants and a Carrick Fellowship. Academic staff now include yet a third Peter (Prof. Peter Freebody), Dr. Chun Hu and our e-Research specialist Dr. Lina Markauskaite. See our full list of Coco Alumni.
