Program type

Creative work of vocal staff at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music has occurred in many Australian and international opera houses and concert halls. Other research areas include work in the area of vocal pedagogy and voice science where research projects with the Australian Centre for Applied Research into Musical Performance has brought about close research collaboration in the areas of performance and pedagogy analysis. Members of the unit have published widely in leading journals in the field, and have supervised higher research degree students as well as been active in examining masters and PhD theses. Members of the unit are active in research work in applied language training for singers and there is great expertise among staff in this vital area of pedagogy. Other research work occurs within more traditional areas of musicology, and prominent work has been done in the art song repertoire and performance practice. Work of international standing has also occurred in broader operatic studies, particularly in the area of operatic adaptation of literature, and there are many publications in this area as well as research supervision.
