Synopsis

Spiral CNTs (nanotubes with a helical microstructure) are useful as additives in polymer composite materials, as inductors in nano-electronic devices, as spring actuators in nano-mechanical devices. Fixed-bed chemical vapour deposition (CVD), which has a typical manufacturing capability at the grams/batch scale, is predominately used for spiral CNT synthesis. We are developing a fluidised-bed CVD process for the large-scale (kg/batch) synthesis of spiral CNTs.
